Types of Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a self generated disorder which has no certain reason of its onset. Most valid reason is Autoimmunity. Treatment for vitiligo in Ayurveda is based on reason autoimmunity and through that it gets success in treating vitiligo with high success rate.
Vitiligo types are divided according to the pattern and onset area or place of white patches in body. There are several theories about types of vitiligo.
According to our experience and databse of neumerous vitiligo patients we characterise Types of Vitiligo as:
Many vitiligo cases are found to be bilateral as if it is in one hand, it tends to appear and can be on other hand also. Similarly over other body areas like eyes, bone joints, temples, waist areas it can be seen bilateral in most of the cases. This is generalised vitiligo. Distribution of widespread vitiligo can be also called Generalised vitiligo.
Generally Vitiligo starts from a particular area like one hand, face or from waist line area. If vitiligo is spread to few limited area then it can be termed as segmental vitiligo. At the same time segmental vitiligo can be found associated with Generalised vitiligo in few vitiligo affected cases.
Acrofacial vitiligo is the most common vitiligo type seen. Acrofacial vitiligo has the spread of white patches away from the centre of the body. It is the loss of skin pigmentation occurring on face or extremities like fingers, around mouth and around eyes. Generally it occurs on exposed areas.
